Headline analyzer

Length, word balance, and where Google will cut it off. Truncation is by pixel width, not character count, so that is what is measured.

Type a headline above.

How long should a title tag be?

Google truncates by pixel width, not characters, at roughly 580 pixels on desktop. That works out around 55 to 60 characters for typical text, but a title full of capitals and wide letters truncates sooner than a title of narrow ones. This tool measures the width rather than counting characters, which is why its limit moves with what you type.

Does a truncated title hurt rankings?

Not directly. It costs clicks, because the part that got cut is usually the part that would have persuaded someone. Put what matters first.

Will Google use my title tag?

Often, not always. Google rewrites titles when it judges another phrase on the page to fit the query better, frequently the H1. A title that accurately describes the page is rewritten less often than one stuffed with keywords.
